| Bariatric Surgery | Assuta’s Bariatric Surgery Unit provides a variety of surgeries for the effective treatment of obesity. Obesity is a growing problem throughout the Western world, and may cause many health problems, such as high blood pressure, high blood fats, heart problems, sleep apnea, stroke and asthma. In addition to providing a range of surgical options, The Bariatric Surgery Unit also offers nutrition and exercise counseling, and plastic surgery after substantial weight loss.
Sleeve Gastrectomy – This laparoscopic procedure reduces the stomach to approximately 15% of its actual size by surgical removal of a significant portion. The surgery ensures the patient is full after eating small portions of food, resulting in substantial weight loss.
Gastric Bypass Surgery – Gastric Bypass is performed in Israel and throughout the Western world on patients who are morbidly obese. It is a laparoscopic operation with approximately 65-70% weight reduction in the year following the operation. The surgery entails the creation of a small pouch from the upper stomach with a bypass to the remaining stomach, and reconstruction of the digestive tract to allow drainage to the intestines from both sections of the stomach. Following surgery, the patient can consume only small amounts of food, resulting in drastic weight loss and a reduction in the health problems associated with morbid obesity.
Plastic Surgery following major weight loss – Assuta offers a range of body sculpting plastic surgeries for patients after major weight loss. These include liposuction, abdominoplasty, lower body lift and upper body lift. These procedures are carried out under general anesthetic, and involve the removal of fat pockets and/or extra skin.
